Luke Macfarlane: "A series can help change attitudes"

Famous for his role as Scotty Wandell in "Brothers & Sisters", broadcast daily on TF1, Luke Macfarlane is also known for being a friend to the town of Wentworth Miller.
Through the series, you are recognized worldwide. It makes you afraid of?
No, because I am still very far from being a star! I'm only in my early days. "Brothers & Sisters" is somehow a step on the path to becoming a celebrity.
Why have accepted the role of Scotty Wandell?
Well, first, I had to find a job. (Laughter.) During a conversation with the producer of the series who is a friend, he asked me to join the team. At first I thought it was for five episodes.
And the adventure continues today ...
Yes, and I am the first surprised!
Surprised? Your character has fascinated viewers, right?
Sure. As I often say, on TV, it uses a lot of things yourself. However, Scotty has more patience than me and a lot more trouble. (Laughter.)
How do you explain the success of "Brothers & Sisters " in Europe?
It's about large families and, on this continent, it is always important. It remains popular.
You made your coming out during an interview in 2008. Since then, the press people keeps you "betrothed" to Wentworth Miller ("Prison Break ")... It annoys you?
Know one thing: I never talk about my private life. And to answer your question, no, I do not have enough.
Gay marriage is still not tolerated in the United States. Do you understand this blockage?
First, it's great that countries like Belgium, Spain and Canada accepted the union between two persons of the same sex. I think the U.S. will do so one day, but it will take a little longer. We hope to make things move faster with series like "Brothers & Sisters. "
Have you noticed a change since the arrival of Barack Obama for president?
Yes, but we know he has a very heavy task and many things to do. But I sincerely believe he will help the gay community.
It was announced in fewer episodes next season. Is this a sign that "Brothers & Sisters" is in danger?
I do not know. Two elements are essential today for the survival of a soap opera: "Is it going to work? The audience figures are good? "What I can tell you is that some players will not return. The series will be very very different!
This goes well with Calista Flockhart, your partner?
I love Calista! It's one of my favorite actresses! It is great to work with her. I confess that I was intimidated at first shootings, because it is a big star ... She is still married to Harrison Ford! (Laughter.) But I soon discovered it was a very simple and humble.
Calista, Rob Lowe, Sally Field ... With so many celebrities in the series, is there not as arguments on the set of "Desperate Housewives"?
No, no. We all know the good manners. (Laughter.) We get along very well from the beginning. We even became friends and often enjoy an evening to find ourselves in a restaurant. There is no conflict.
